Up Girl Program cont'd Journeys For All Girls GS Meeting Plans Bright Ideas

TO: Girl Scout Leaders
FROM: “Girl Scout Meeting Plans” Task Force
SUBJECT: A year of program for you!

Welcome to Girl Scout leadership! You are about to participate in an experience that will be fun, exciting, challenging and unforgettable. As you embark on this great adventure, you may be feeling a little uneasy. Are you concerned about your troop meetings? Are you anxious that you might not include everything that you want to accomplish with your girls? Don’t worry. You have a year’s worth of program at your fingertips!

In order to help you with your first year of troop meetings, a complete program has been designed for you. You may follow these meeting plans as they are written, or you may adjust them to suit your needs and talents. Use them for a few weeks, months or all year! These meeting plans are a resource for you to use as you desire.

When you volunteered to become a leader, you received a Leader Notebook, a set of age level handbooks, and a leader’s guide. You may wish to purchase a ceremonies book, set of audio tapes or compact discs that feature Girl Scout songs, Issues for Girl Scouts, etc. These resources may be purchased at the Council Shop.

Another resource is available to you is a council publication, Bright Ideas. This resource will provide all kinds of program ideas for you and your girls.

As you look at all of the materials that are at your disposal remember that you will learn so much when you complete your leadership training. Girl Scout training for leaders is required within four months of appointment. Training is an invaluable asset to your leadership skills.

Finally, your first year will be filled with all kinds of learning experiences. Both you and the girls you lead will discover new worlds as the year progresses. As you become more comfortable in your leadership position, you will be able to give the girls more responsibility. The ultimate goal in Girl Scout troop management is to implement girl/adult partnership. Give the girls an opportunity to take an increasingly more active part in planning and governance. You cannot imagine the satisfaction that you will feel as you see the girls grow and mature under your guidance.

Please use these Girl Scout Meeting Plans as you need them. They are yours to modify as you desire. Relax and enjoy your troop experience. And don’t forget to have fun!
