For over 95 years the mission of the Girl Scouts has been to help girls develop to
their fullest potential and become happy, resourceful citizens. The Girl Scout program
provides an environment that enables girls to develop their individual skills and talents
and attain the self-esteem and confidence to succeed in today's world. Through Girl Scouting's informal education program, girls are given the opportunity to face and meet
new challenges, build lasting friendships, and have fun!!!
The Girl Scout program is offered to all girls in five progressive age
levels: Daisy (age 5), Brownie (ages 6-8), Junior (ages 9-11), Cadette (ages 12-14), and
Senior (ages 15-17).
Working in partnership with adults, girls are encouraged to set their
own goals. Over 200 badges and interest projects offer the girls the opportunity to
explore areas such as the arts, out-of-doors, health and well-being, science and math,
travel, career exploration, and leadership development.
The Girl Scout program emphasizes developing self-potential and values,
relating to others, and contributing to society.
Girl Scouting also strives to meet the needs of girls through a combination of programs
called "Contemporary Issues" which address substance abuse, AIDS, teenage
sexuality, growing up female, youth suicide, family crises, pluralism, child abuse,
literacy, careers in math and science, and the environment, conflict resolution, and
gender equity.
Wider Opportunity programs are offered to Cadette and Senior Girl
Scouts which allow girls to expand their horizons by traveling nationally and
internationally.
The Girl Scout organization continually strives to make Girl Scouting
available to all girls. Outreach programs are tailored to meet the needs of a specific
area and serve as an alternative to the traditional troop. Some of these special programs
include after school groups, programs in special centers/shelters, summer camp activities,
and troops in public-housing.

Recognition Letters and Certificates
Once final report forms for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards come into the
council office, leaders should anticipate approximately 2-4 weeks turn-around
time for receiving letters and certificates of congratulations. Leaders of
Bronze and Silver Award recipients can purchase the pins in the council store
once the final report forms are in the office. Letters and certificates are
mailed directly to the leaders and include press kits to be used for media and
council public relations purposes. Gold Award pins can be picked up at the
council office once the leaders have received the congratulatory
letters/certificate packets.
