Helpful Hints for Completing Award Forms

• Write for strangers. All forms are judged only by what is written on the paper. Include factual information to help the committee clearly see the person’s accomplishments.

• Nominate those who have completed training, if required by Board policy. Nominations cannot be considered if candidates have not completed training for positions requiring training.

• Find persons who have gone above and beyond the expectations for the position held. The nomination should clearly state why the person’s work is noteworthy and above that expected for the position held

• Provide specific examples.  Broad examples do not provide a clear picture of the person’s work.

• Omit contributions in areas not related to the award. If nominating someone for an award related to service unit work, do not include detail after detail about the person’s work as a leader.

• Include accomplishments, specifying whenever possible about the impact on the audience receiving the service.  Provide details of accomplishments, not a list of the number of committees involved with.

• Include the number of letters of endorsement requested.  Ask for more letters of endorsement than needed to ensure sufficient number in time for the deadline. Pick the strongest letters to include with the packet.

• Include any specific letters requested.  Indicate the position of the letter writers on the nomination form, such as service team member or girl member.

• Verify that the activity listed has not been used for a previous award.  One set of accomplishments can receive only one award.
