Dear Day Campers:
Looking forward to the best summer ever? We are, at day camp!
Day camp is a great place for girls who have completed any grade
from kindergarten through eighth. There are more day camp
opportunities this summer than ever before! Camp Douglas Long
and Camp Seven Springs will each have six weeks of day camp this
summer, while The Learning Center will have nine sessions of day
camp. Girls may attend any day camp of their choice, and they
may choose as many camps or sessions as they’d like.
Day camp programs are designed especially for girls, giving them
a chance to experience the outdoors, have fun and adventure with
new friends, and gain independence. Girls register as individual
campers and are placed into units based on their program level
in Girl Scouting (Brownie, Junior, etc.) Activities during the
week include requirements from Girl Scout Try-Its, Badges,
Interest Projects and Studio 2B Focus Books. Membership in Girl
Scouting is not a prerequisite; girls not currently registered
as Girl Scouts are welcome to attend day camp.
Older girls: We haven’t forgotten about you! Day camp is a great
place for girls who have completed seventh grade and above, too.
Older girls can serve as leaders in the Program Aide and Junior
Assistant Leader programs. Prerequisites for leadership programs
are listed under the Day Camp Leadership Opportunities on pg.
12. Be sure to check out the Lifeguard Training program at Seven
Springs. It’s a great new course for you this summer! There will
also be a special three-night twilight camp at The Learning
Center based on the Studio 2B Focus Book “Uniquely Me! The Real
Deal.”

It’s going to be a great summer! Looking forward to seeing you
there!

Day Camp FAQs
I have a question about day
camp. Who can I contact? You can contact Andrea Reavis at the council office by phone
(336-369-7437) or by email (areavis@tarheeltriad.org.) You can
also contact the director listed for each camp by email.
Can I check out day camp before I register my daughter?
Yes, each camp will have open houses during the spring. This is
a great time for campers to visit camp with their families. Look
for each site’s open house date listed in that camp’s program
descriptions. We’d love to see you!
Why did the cost of transportation change?
Due to the increasing cost of vehicle rental and gasoline, it
was necessary for the council to adjust the fees for
transportation accordingly. It is the council’s goal that all
camps operate in a financially responsible manner. Camperships
may be applied to transportation fees as well as general camp
fees.
We live in an outlying county such as Alamance, Alleghany,
Caswell, Davidson, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Yadkin or Wilkes.
How can my daughter get to day camp? For the first time this summer we’re offering transportation
from these outlying counties to either Camp Douglas Long or Camp
Seven Springs. Please see pg. 9 for more information about
additional transportation.
My daughter has a special need. Can she still attend day
camp? Every effort will be made to accommodate girls with special
needs. Please contact Andrea Reavis prior to registering for day
camp to ensure that the specific needs of your daughter can be
met.
What activities will my daughter participate in at day camp?
Every session offers favorite camp activities such as arts &
crafts, singing, sports, games, nature hikes, archery (completed
third grade and up,) team-building sessions, flag ceremonies and
kapers (care and clean-up of program and unit areas.) Each
session will also feature activities and programs related to
that week’s theme. Camp Douglas Long, which has an Olympic-size
swimming pool and lake, and Camp Seven Springs, which has a lake
with beach area and water slides, offer swimming, canoeing,
paddle boating, kayaking and other water activities in either
the pool or lake. |
